"Winter's Coming - I can feel it in my bones"

September 16, 2015

Summer, by the calendar, is in its last few days -- and "weather" or not we like it, colder temperatures are moving into Wisconsin!

Typically, at least for many of us, we're not quite as active -- on a daily basis -- during the colder months, as we have been over the Spring and Summer.  This "slow-down," while natural and understandable, can play havoc with our muscles and joints.  Many of us notice more aches, pains, and stiffness at this time of year.

Active Chiropractic is once again offering their New Patient Special, which includes a Chiropractic Exam and Treatment - a total package value of $200 - at No Charge!

What Are the Benefits and Risks of Chiropractic Care?

August 11, 2015

More than 22 million people experience back pain in the United States each year, and look for alterntives to surgery for the alleviation of their pain. Of that group of people, the majority seek to alleviate their discomfort with the assistance of their chosen chiropractor.

Chiropractic care and spinal manipulation is is generally considered a safe and effective treatment for acute low back pain. Acute back pain, which is more common than chronic pain, lasts no more than six weeks and often gets better on its own.

Many research studies have shown chiropractic care to also be helpful in treating neck pain and headaches. Additionally, osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia have also been shown to respond to the moderate pressure used both by chiropractors and practitioners of deep tissue massage.

It has been found that people suffering from osteoporosis, spinal cord compression, or inflammatory arthritis should avoid undergoing spinal manipulation. Additionally, patients with a history of cancer should first consult their medical doctor before undergoing spinal manipulation.

In any case, the treatment is based on the accurate diagnosis of your back pain. The chiropractor should be well informed regarding your medical history, including ongoing medical conditions, current medications, traumatic/surgical history, and any and all pertinent lifestyle factors.

Got Back Pain? Active Chiropractic can help!

June 25, 2015

According to recent studies, the 2nd most frequent cause of Long Term Disability -- and the 5th most frequent cause of Short Term Disability -- is Back pain; caused by various disorders.

There are many reasons for a painful back; some skeletal, and some soft tissue related. Regardless of the initial cause, the recommended protocol very often includes both chiropractic and physical therapy treatments.

Wouldn’t it be nice to go to the same doctor for both therapies?

That’s where the doctors at Active Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, in Allouez, come in: Drs. Matthew Gallagher and Matthew Herber are both experienced Chiropractors in Allouez. They are also certified in the patented soft tissue therapy, Active Release Technique® (or ART®), for muscle-tissue related pain:

Active Release Technique®, or ART®, is a patented hands on soft tissue therapy designed to help people who are experiencing problems with their soft tissues: muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Joint dysfunction and muscle strains often lead to many pains: hip, back, knee, shoulder tightness as well as headaches.

ART® providers evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of patient’s muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. By identifying the specific muscles and/or tissues causing the problem, ART® Providers are able to combine patient movements with non-invasive directed tension allowing the muscles to move freely once again. There are over 500 treatment protocols which are unique to ART® allowing Providers to treat individuals for each specific injury or problem area. Patients who receive ART® will often see results within just a few treatments.

Chiropractic care is a hands on practice. They use hands-on spinal manipulation and other alternative treatments. The theory behind it being that the proper alignment of the body’s musculoskeletal structure, in particular the spine, will enable the body to heal itself without the need for invasive surgery or medications.

Chiropractic restores joint function and facilitates proprioceptive neuromotor pathways. Add exercises to restore muscle function, and you are well on your way to recovery!
