Drink Milk...To Your Health!

March 2, 2017

Milk has long been associated with good health, making it one of the most consumed beverages throughout the United States and Europe.

What are some of the Health Benefits of Milk?

Milk is good for the bones because it offers a rich source of calcium, a mineral essential for healthy bones and teeth. Cow's milk is fortified with vitamin D, which also benefits bone health. Calcium and vitamin D help prevent osteoporosis.

Cow's milk is a source of potassium, which can enhance vasodilation and reduce blood pressure.

Increasing potassium intake and decreasing sodium can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, according to a study led by Dr. Mark Houston, director of the Hypertension Institute at St. Thomas Hospital in Tennessee. The study showed that those who consumed 4069 mg of potassium per day had a 49 percent lower risk of death from ischemic heart disease compared with those who consumed around 1000 mg per day. According to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, fewer than 2 percent of US adults meet the daily 4700 mg recommendation.

Where is Your Milk From & What's in it?

October 26, 2016

Milk is milk...right?

When it comes to feeding your family and yourself, you have a right to know where your food comes from and what's in it.  Here in Wisconsin, we're proud of our status as the Dairy State, and we're particular about our dairy food choices.

Did you know that Most Milk in Wisconsin is NOT from Wisconsin?

While we are “America’s Dairyland” most of the milk produced in Wisconsin goes to cheese production – not to your glass of milk. Just because a dairy company is located in Wisconsin, does not mean the milk COMES from Wisconsin farmers.

Farmer's Best Home Delivery's partner, Lamers Dairy, sources its milk from a select number of farms within 20 miles of its Appleton facility.

Farmer's Best Home Delivery supplies only 100rBGH-free milk.

Farmer’s Best never puts profit ahead of your family’s well-being. If your milk does not say ”rGBH Free,” it’s possible that it was produced through this forced milk production hormone. While mega-farms may use these questionable methods, it is not a part of the production philosophy of our local farmers.

Farmer’s Best celebrates 2nd Anniversary

September 22, 2016

For most people, the idea of a milkman walking up their sidewalk to deliver fresh, locally-farmed milk in glass bottles is just a quaint piece of American history.

Mega-farms and warehouse grocery stores have all but driven this nostalgic option out of our neighborhoods.

However, the big operations have left a bit of room for one local company.

“We have a unique niche in the market,” said Farmer’s Best owner Julia Thomas of Howard. “If you want locally-farmed food and milk conveniently delivered to your home, we’re your provider.”

Farmer’s Best Home Delivery offers over 100 locally produced food items including coffee, cheeses, breads, cage-free chickens and organic eggs, but its mainstay is the glass bottled milk.

“Glass bottles keep the milk fresh, and our customers love the taste,” said Thomas. “Nationally, glass-bottled milk and farm-to-table foods is leading the market. We’ve found a way to capitalize on that trend.”

Farmer’s Best customers aren’t the only ones who swear by the quality of the milk they deliver - the international dairy community does as well. Lamers Dairy Dairyland’s Best milk, the milk delivered by Farmer’s Best, won first place at the 2013 World Dairy Expo.

“I can’t tell you how proud we are of this award,” said Thomas. “The families and businesses we serve have told us that Dairyland’s Best milk is the world’s best milk. Well, we now have an industry award that justifies that opinion."
