For nearly 60 years (1931-1989) Ford’s Bakery on George St. in De Pere served up sweet treats to local residents. Mention the words “Ford’s Bakery” to anyone raised in De Pere and they’re likely to have a story connected to the bakery.

Many of its secret recipes, for items like graham cracker cake, became sought after by mothers and bakers everywhere trying (without much success) to replicate their favorites.

A photo show about Ford’s Bakery – and a kickoff to a 100th birthday celebration for one of Ford’s co-owners, Casey Kolb – will take place on Tuesday, June 27th from 6:30pm to 8:00pm, in the West De Pere High School auditorium, hosted by Joe Seroogy and McKim Boyd on behalf of the De Pere Historical Society (Program at 7:00pm).

“We are so excited that Casey will be able to join us to kick off the celebration of his 100th birthday and share stories about a bakery with legendary status in our community,” said Amanda Reif, White Pillars Museum Director and Curator. “It is guaranteed to be a fun evening especially for those who remember the important role the bakery played in so many holidays and family celebrations.”

Additional topics of community interest will also be covered. Following the program, an informal social will be held in the cafeteria featuring Seroogy’s melt-a-ways and cookies. The event is open to the public; pre-registration is not required but there is a suggested donation of $2 per person.
