Happiness & Health Presentation
Event Info
Start: March 2, 2020 - 6:00pmEnd: March 2, 2020 - 7:30pm
UW-Madison Professor Carol Ryff (Psychology Department Chair and the Director of the Institute on Aging) takes a look at happiness—considered key to the human experience since the ancient Greeks—from a scientific perspective. New science shows that purposeful life engagement is an important influence on longevity and predicts reduced risk for various diseases. Ryff will share how all of this works in the brain and the body, as well as highlight ongoing efforts to promote well-being via a community intervention program, Lighten Up!—an eight-week program that benefits the psychological well-being of older adults living in the community.
The presentation is free and open to the public.
This presentation is part of UW-Green Bay Psychology’s “Psych Week 2020” programming, from March 2 through March 6, 2020. The annual week of programming features in-person and online events designed to inform community and university audiences about mental health issues facing the region. The week includes thought-provoking opportunities available to UW-Green Bay psychology students, as well as opportunities for engaging the larger Green Bay community in mental health literacy.
