Allouez Reminding Residents of No Street-Parking During Street-Sweeping —

And Explaining the Reasons!

Allouez Village authorities have initiated a street-sweeping program aimed at maintaining clean streets, reducing pollutants in waterways, and meeting the WDNR’S Municipal Storm Water Permit Requirements. As part of this program, it is important for residents to be aware of parking restrictions during street-sweeping operations.

Effective April 1st to November 15th, parking will not be permitted on Village streets between the hours of 6:00am and 4:00pm on the scheduled days of garbage and recycling pickup on each respective street. The purpose of this ban is to facilitate curb-to-curb street-sweeping and ensure the effectiveness of the program.

The street-sweeping program plays a crucial role in keeping our streets clean and preventing the accumulation of debris. By removing leaves, trash, and other materials from the streets, we can prevent them from entering storm sewers and, ultimately, our waterways. Stormwater runoff, especially during rain or snow melt, is a significant contributor to water pollution.

When water flows into storm drains, it picks up pollutants such as oil from car leaks and bacteria from pet waste. These pollutants can have detrimental effects on water quality and pose a threat to our nation’s ecosystems. By implementing the street-sweeping program and parking ban, the Village aims to reduce stormwater runoff, filter out pollutants, and protect our streams and groundwater.

We must all contribute to this effort by taking responsibility for our own rubbish and making conscious choices. Simple actions like choosing products carefully and managing our lawns and pavement to allow water to sink in can significantly reduce runoff and protect our water quality.  Together, we can make the necessary changes to improve water quality in our community. By adhering to the parking restrictions during street sweeping operations, we can ensure the success of this program and enjoy cleaner streets and healthier waterways.
