Allouez Village Board Approves Resolution Regarding Closing of Green Bay Correctional Institution

Posted on 6-20-2019

The Allouez Village Board has approved a resolution to support the Joint Finance Committee’s approval of $5M to begin the process of closing GBCI as part of the 2019 – 2020 budget.

The $5M would be spent on identifying and acquiring the property for a future site, providing utilities to the site, preparing the site for development, and to issue a Request for Proposal for a new facility.

This is the culmination of years of work by Rep. David Steffen and the Village of Allouez  to close the facility and make it available for development, which has been supported by the Brown County Board of Supervisors and other counties and municipalities in Northeast Wisconsin.

Area residents are encouraged to contact their State Representative, State Senator, and Governor Evers, to voice their support for this budget amendment.

The State Assembly and Senate are scheduled to vote on the budget next week.  Assuming it passes, it then goes to Governor Evers for his signature.
