Posted on 3-11-2020

Our friends at Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary recently welcomed new Superintendent Steve Lakatos.

“Steve comes to us by way of Northwest Indiana where he was the Director of Humane Indiana Wildlife, the largest wildlife rehab center in Indiana.

Steve earned his degree in Biology from Valparaiso University and has 20+ years experience in the animal care field, with a special focus on native wildlife and their rehabilitation. Growing up near the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, Steve developed his passion for wildlife early, leading him to serve on many boards and committees where he has been involved in the creation and implementation of many community education programs. Steve holds multiple Wildlife Rehabilitation permits and has extensive experience with a wide array of wildlife.”

Steve further developed his passion for animals working for a veterinarian for more than 20 years, working his way up to management while honing his wildlife rehabilitation education.

Working closely with the veterinarian as a surgical assistant and clinic manager, Steve brings a broad knowledge of veterinary medicine experience to this new role as well.

Steve is an avid fisherman and fell in love with Wisconsin early in his youth and over the course of decades of annual fishing trips. Steve and his wife Emily are expecting their first child in the fall.

The staff of Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary are excited to welcome Steve to the team and are sure he’ll help make the Sanctuary even better and continue its legacy as a true gem of Green Bay.

Please be sure and say hello and welcome Steve next time you stop by ~ And, Let him know you read about him in the Green Bay News Network!
