Big Little Art Show Opens Nov 4th in Fish Creek

Peninsula School of Art (PenArt), 3900 County Road F, Fish Creek, opens its latest exhibition, Big Little Art Show on Friday, November 4th, with a free public opening reception from 4:30pm to 6:00pm. The exhibition will run through January 28th, 2023.

The first annual BIG little Art Show is a curated exhibition featuring works up to 12 inches in any dimension. The exhibition was open to artists of all media and over 320 works by local and regional artists were submitted for consideration. 244 works by 143 artists are represented in the final exhibition.

In past winters, PenArt has hosted exhibitions featuring students, faculty, members, and local artists, including a salon show, a faculty/student/member show, or more recent thematic exhibitions of work by local artists such as Reply All and Dynamic Duos.

“We are always looking for ways to serve the community,” said Crystal Chesnik, Director of Public Programs and Exhibitions. “We loved the way people turned out for Dynamic Duos and want to capture that excitement again while including even more artists.”

With a maximum dimensions of 12 x 12 x 12 inches for each work of art, more works can be featured in the gallery. Prices will likely also be more moderate, making them affordable for people looking for holiday gifts or just to treat themselves with a work of art they love.

As size is the only major restriction, there’s sure to be a great variety of styles, media, and subject matter represented, so everyone can find something that speaks to them.  Works purchased prior to December 15th will be available for pick up or shipping in time for holiday gift giving.

Even visitors not looking to buy will have a chance to get involved. Viewers can vote on their favorites through November 30, to determine the first, second, and third place winners, who will receive $300, $200, and $100 cash prizes, respectively.

“We’re hoping to make this an annual event, like our Door County Plein Air Festival or the Hardy’s Community Mosaic Project,” added Chesnik.

Appreciators and participants can join curator, Crystal Chesnik on Tuesday, December 6th, at 10:30am, for Coffee with Curator to hear more about the art, ask questions, share thoughts, and discover answers together in a lively discussion of works on view.

Big Little Art Show is on display in Peninsula School of Art’s Guenzel Gallery. The Gallery is free and open to the public Monday through Saturday 8am to 5pm.
