Gathering God’s Family Around His Table

[*In 2015, we welcomed Carrie Zehms and “From Above” to the Green Bay News Network. This week, we give you an update on this unique family-friendly enterprise.]

From Above is a non-profit organization, whose main revenue stream comes from generous donations and grants. Sale of baked goods is the secondary source of revenue. The bakery also aids teens and people with special needs in developing vocational skills and provides volunteer opportunities to people of all ages.  Carrie Zehms is the founder and president of From Above.

“As a parent, I realized there were few social outlets for Catholic teens to deepen and share their Catholic faith. Through prayer, the Holy Spirit put on my heart the idea of a Catholic Youth Center. The Holy Spirit led me to the idea of using my gift for baking as a means to start/support a Youth Center for middle and high school students.”

Carrie tells us that the original vision of From Above was for teens to have a safe and fun place to go where they can discuss and deepen their faith: A place where true Christian friendships are developed.

“As time went on, now in our 3rd year, God has us on a more diverse journey. We are now working with not only kids, but people with special needs, families, the homebound, and the wider community.”

From Above is also a place for families to come together to celebrate, connect and grow.

“By having the students work in the bakery, it will give them life skills to help them in the future. To teach them how to work together, solve problems, take responsibility for their actions and to bring Gods love into the community and be a witness for Christ.

The bakery will produce quality baked goods using the best ingredients, exceptional customer service and most of all, using the gifts in which God gave us. The students will have a strong love for Christ and will be witnesses for Him.”

From Above is a 501c3 nonprofit organization, so they rely on the generosity of the local community to keep their mission going.
